June 2000:
It's June and parents are extra busy with end of school activities and balancing work schedules. Sometimes talking with our children gets overlooked in our best efforts to attend all the school functions and baseball games. Each day, take a moment to look into each of your children's eyes, smile into them, and tell them you love them. Ask them to tell you what made their day special, how math is going, what one event would make this summer the best ever, or how did they feel when they made the catch. Keep a frisbee or ball in your car, so if you are 5 minutes early for the next practice or school event, you can play catch with your child. Take advantage of the driving time to events to ask your child about their hopes and dreams. It's important to attend events, practices and games, but even more important to enjoy being with your child.
